From tiny variable QR codes on food packaging to large-scale outdoor posters, the precision and flexibility of inkjet printing are underpinned by the advanced technology of its core material—the inkjet ink.

The essence of inkjet ink lies in its stable system, in which colorants (pigments or dyes) are uniformly dispersed within a vehicle. It is precisely the colorants that determine the key aspects of print color performance.

  • Pigment vs. Dye Dyes dissolve in ink in molecular form; although they produce vivid colors, their weather resistance is relatively poor. Pigments, on the other hand, are dispersed in particle form and, thanks to their excellent lightfastness and chemical resistance, have become the mainstream choice for industrial-grade inkjet inks.
  • The Hardcore Requirements for Inkjet Pigments Unlike traditional inks, inkjet inks have more stringent technical standards for pigments:
    1. Particle Size and Dispersibility The diameter of the pigment particles themselves is on the order of tens of nanometers. However, once they enter the liquid vehicle system, they tend to aggregate rapidly, causing their particle size in the ink formulation to increase dramatically—up to several tens of micrometers. Therefore, it is essential that after dispersion, the pigment particles have a particle size of less than 1 μm and are uniformly distributed; otherwise, the nozzles are highly likely to become clogged, leading to equipment downtime.
    2. Conductivity Control In water-based inkjet systems, excessively high electrical conductivity can cause electrochemical corrosion of the print head, thereby shortening the equipment's lifespan.
    3. Transparency and Color Reproduction The three primary-color inks require hues that closely resemble spectral colors and high saturation levels. In particular, the transparency of magenta, cyan, and yellow pigments directly determines the tonal richness of overprinted colors.
    4. Weather resistance and stability In complex environments such as exposure to outdoor sunlight and contact with chemicals, pigments must possess properties like acid resistance, alkali resistance, and alcohol resistance to ensure that printed designs remain vivid and long-lasting.

These technical pain points not only test the expertise of ink engineers but also place extremely high demands on the R&D capabilities of pigment manufacturers.

Yuhong Pigment Co.,LTD., which has been deeply engaged in the domestic organic pigment industry for many years, has leveraged its profound understanding of inkjet ink systems to launch two targeted solutions, ensuring that technical standards are translated into trustworthy products.

Lumeijia Yellow 7102 Jet: A water-based inkjet ink characterized by small particle size, low electrical conductivity, and excellent dispersibility.

Lumeijia Hong 6301 Jet: A solvent-based inkjet ink characterized by small particle size, low electrical conductivity, high transparency, and excellent dispersibility.

As inkjet printing advances toward higher precision and broader application scenarios, choosing a pigment supplier that combines strong technical capabilities with product stability means opting for dual guarantees: color consistency, equipment compatibility, and long-term reliability. Yu Hong Pigments, backed by its solid technological foundation, is working hand-in-hand with industry partners to unlock even more possibilities in inkjet printing.
